Most of the Windows 10 users have noticed a lot of advertisements or pop-ups claiming that you need security software installed on your system to keep it secure from various types of infections like malware, viruses, etc. As soon as you turn on your computer and connect to the Internet, you see all types of advertisements which claim that if you buy these system tools and utilities, you will not get affected by junk on offer.

You may not be aware that using these system tools may make your life more complex and bog down the sped of your computer. So avoid these system tools or optimization programs and keep only those which are essential.

Registry Cleaner

Often registry cleaning programs developing companies claim that their products can be used for cleaning the junk files from the registry if you want to speed up your PC. There are some scenarios where it may be helpful to clean the registry and fix the crash which encounter. But this is not true in all cases, and even running a registry cleaner regularly may cause more problems than fixing the existing ones. A huge amount of data stored in the registry and deleting a few thousand tiny entries may hardly improve the speed of your computer.

Memory Optimizer

Memory optimization tools were useful when computer’s memory management was not good and they used to have tiny amounts of memory. Now the machines are designed with better memory managemen and don’t need help for “optimizing” or “boosting” your computer’s memory. In fact, using a memory optimizer will actually degrade the speed of your PC. Modern computers use advanced technologies to speed up your system and Windows 10 OS take care of memory on its own. If you want to speed up your system, don’t use a memory optimizer, just close some programs and release some memory resources.

PC Cleaner

Like registry cleaners, “PC cleaning” utilities are another substandard category of software applications which are advertised on TV and banner ads all over the web. These software developing companies mislead the computer users and sell their expensive PC cleaning products to them.

It’s not that these utilities can’t release some space on your disk and speed up your computer by deleting temporary files, the matter is that you can do it with the help of a free tools as well or the Disk cleaning tool that comes up with Windows.

Driver Cleaner

The time has been gone when driver cleaning programs were useful pieces of software, but now they are no more useful. It’s not necessary to clean the drivers and paying for the drivers cleaning utilities is not definitely a great idea. So avoid buying the paid ones and those free ones also which have not been updated since long as they’re no longer useful. Plus, don’t try to install updated drivers until you receive a notification from Windows 10 Update otherwise it’ll cause troubles. But if you’re a PC gamer, the one exception is graphics drivers as you need to update them for maximum performance.

SSD Optimizer and separate disk defragmenter

SSDs (solid-state drives) are used in today’s systems so you don’t need to defrag the disk space.  Defragmentation software and SSD optimizer software companies use the idea that most of the computer users need to run an optimizer to get the top speed, but there is no proof of that. The firmware running on the SSD itself and the OS does a good job of optimizing your SSD on their own. In fact, SSD optimization program running on your PC doesn’t even have the low-level access to perform a lot tasks what it promises.

The Windows built-in defragmentation tool is more than enough to defrag your hard drives for you in the background when it’s required. In fact, there is no need to run a defragmentation program manually as it automatically defrags the drive if there is need to do so. So you don’t need to buy or install a separate disk defragmenter.

Outbound Firewall

Windows has an inbuilt firewall, so if you’re a Windows user, you have Firewall protection. Often third-party firewalls alert you by focusing on features the Windows 10 firewall doesn’t have. Third-party Firewalls claims that alerts you to micromanage those programs on your PC which can access the Internet. Frankly speaking, this isn’t a very useful feature. Usually users need to decide which application they want to connect to the Internet. If you’re allowing a program to access the Internet which is not trustworthy, you should not run that that program in the first place.

Third-Party Uninstaller

It’s true that when you uninstall any program, it often leaves useless traces of files lying around it. As Windows 10 uninstallation process is not great enough so some people prefer third-party tools to uninstall the software applications. It’s fine to delete them, but the remaining files hardly make any difference in the speed of your system. So it may not be ideal to use third-party programs every time. You can uninstall useless programs normally as well; you don’t need to purchase a third-party uninstaller for that.

Update Checker

In Windows systems, there is no standard way to check for application updates, so every program has to create a code for update itself and also manage this process itself. There are users who try to tame this job by installing third-party programs. At some point of time these utilities were more useful, but these days, most of the applications that need to be updated have its own integrated update-checking feature. Now most of them check for updates and prompt you or automatically install. If any program doesn’t check for updates automatically, there may be no need to update it.

Game Booster

Some application developers make promise to boost your system performance so that you can have a good gaming experience. They make promise to boost the speed of your PC by halting background processes, but actually there is nothing like that. There is no difference found in real-world gaming performance.

The gaming performance only degrades when you’re playing games and using a demanding application in the background or downloading something via BitTorrent. In these situation, you don’t need the help of third-party programs, just push the download or close any heavy program before playing games.

Full Security Suite

Antivirus applications are useful because they provide a defense layer for your system in the challenging environments.  All computer users need to keep their software updated and don’t need to download applications from untrustworthy websites to stay safe from zero-day vulnerabilities. If you’re running antivirus application, there is no need a full security suite. Because full security suites are heavy software and have additional features like- phishing filters, temporary-file cleaning program that considers each browser cookie on your computer as a threat, heavy firewalls with lots of dials and knobs, and more.

Moreover, heavy security suites bog down your system with all their functions and distract you with notifications. But all third-party apps are not worthless or problematic.
